I Love 3D |BIM |VDC….
Almost 14 years back in year 2000, when I was a fresh Civil Engineer graduate, I started working with AutoCAD. I fall in love with 3D. I tried creating 3D models and rendering it. It used to be very painful to draw and model everything from basic 3D commands to shape up like a building. I used to imagine that there could be commands in AutoCAD like wall, door, window, floor, beam, column, footing etc. I read somewhere that what you think, imagine and desire for come true in next 5-6 years. In 2005, when I came to Pune, I got all these commands running in AutoCAD Architectural desktop. I started believing the 5-6 years concept. That time BIM was not said much but I was aware that 3D this was going to be the future. We were doing the clash check and utilities space reservation, drawings and schedules extraction from 3D models.
Today I am BIM manager (Specialist) in one of the European consultancy company. We use more advanced and sophisticated BIM & VDC tools like Revit, Civil 3D, Tekla, Navisworks, Tekla BIMsight, etc.
I gone through lot of hard work, mistakes and learning to come to this stage. We learn from the mistakes from others. We walk on the footsteps who are ahead and we avoid same mistakes and do new mistakes.
The aim of writing this blog is to let the new comers know
1. What is BIM and VDC?
2. How can they learn this new way and process of handling construction projects?
3. What are the benefits of this process?
4. How can they shape their carrier in this new domain? If you have any questions, post to me in comments and I will try to help you out.
Thanks,
Sandip
